Where in North Denver? you don’t have to travel to the tropics to see jaguars, monkeys and macaws thanks to muralist Andrea Metzger. She planned this tropical scene on paper, then drew outlines on the wall of Planned Pethood Plus at 4170 Tennyson. While painting the colorful 40-foot-long mural between 1993 and 1996, so many people stopped to ask about her work that, “I got a feel for the community and moved here.” The fanciful mural includes a rain-forest scene and a tropical lagoon. the
work, which has become a beloved piece of North Side street art, was a brainchild of Dr. Jeff Young, owner of the veterinary clinic. Receptionist Diane Pomponio has her own reasons to enthuse about the painting. “We can tell people who call for directions just to look for the mural.” And because Dr. Young believes so strongly in spaying and neutering that he offers discounted prices for the procedures, she gets plenty of those calls.
