The Alex Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center Award of Achievement
Jeffrey Young, DVM

During his veterinary training, Dr. Jeff Young served as an animal control officer.

Witnessing first hand the devastating results of pet overpopulation made the young doctor determined to put an end to the unplanned and senseless breading of dogs and cats. One year after his graduation from the Colorado State University of School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Young established Planned Pethood Plus, Inc. (PPP). The nationwide organization is best known for low-cost mobile neutering services, Native American reservation work, and training veterinarians in more efficient surgical sterilization techniques. Through the years, Jeff has been an adviser for mobile surgical units across the United States and has served on numerous humane society boards.

Because he has always been guided by the simple precept: “Think globally; act locally,” Dr. young recently founded Planned Pethood International to help fund the building of a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital in Bratislava, Slovakia. The faility will provide expert spay/neuter training to veterinarians in that part of the world, stop the needless breeding of pets, and help spread the word that sterilized dogs and cats live longer, happier lives.

Dr. Jeffrey Young is an outspoken proponent of early age spaying and neutering and has personally sterilized over 100,000 animals during his veterinary career. Therefore, North Shore Animal League America is proud to present him with The Alex Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center Award of Achievement for his dedication to the humane treatment of animals and his lifesaving work which has made the world safer, happier, and healthier for all dogs and cats.
