A three-day spay/neuter clinic was held August 1-3, 1999 at the bingo Hall. The five volunteer veterinarians were Dr. Jeffrey Young, Dr. Becky Brown, Dr. Peggy Larson, Dr.Roger Prior, and Dr. Ken Harshman. Jean Atthowe… national movement. Every reservation but Rocky Boy received the volunteer services. Rocky Boy is scheduled to have their “Pet Care Week” next spring. A more detailed report on the spay and neuter movement will be in the next issue.

Local volunteers transported dogs and cats from Hays and Lodgepole. Animal Control Officer, John Shambo, also assisted the clinic. Fort Belknap fed the volunteers morning, noon, and night during their three day duration.

A total of 310 animals received spaying and

neutering. On day one of the clinic a total of 69 dogs and cats were brought in. There were 17 male dogs and 15 male dogs that were neutered. Twenty female dogs and seventeen female cats were spayed. Of those sixty… previously produced. Thirty eight were animals whose owners that never an animal sterilized. Twenty-four of those animals were stray and 24 were home birth. Note that not all owners responded to the last three statistics.

Day two, eighty-eight dogs and cats were brought in. Forty-one female cats were spayed and 19 male cats were neutered. Thirteen female dogs were spayed and fifteen male cats were neuter. Thirty-five of the animals had previously produced litters. Forty-seven animal owners never had

an animal sterilized. Twenty were stray and two were of home birth. Note that not all owners responded to the last three statistics.

The third day had the largest turnout with 73 female cats and 55 male cats receiving spaying. Sixteen male dogs and 29 female dogs were neutered. Of the 153 animals, 78 had previously produced litters, and 59 were of home birth Note that no all owners responded to the last three statistics.

The total for Fort Belknap and Fort Peckl is 1,018 dogs and cats that are now spayed & neutered. The total for the Task Force Service since 11/96 is 4,539.
